Compost plants are the natural way to recycle the organic part of municipal solid waste.

Composting is one of the elements of integrated solid waste management applicable to municipal solid waste. Composting breaks down easily degradable plant and animal tissue under controlled conditions to a state of sufficiently stable for nuisance-free storage and handling and for safe use in land applications. Three basic systems are used for decompositon, windrows, turned windrows, and in-vessel composting.
